What are SIP trunks?
A Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) trunk is a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service that connects your current PBX, where calls are currently routed over the public switched network (PSTN), to the internet.
This has big cost savings implications for a business as follows:
- Access for IP calls can be over existing IP connectivity - making better fractional use of what you have already rather than paying for additional lines
- The number of ISDN BRIs (Basic Rate Interfaces) or PRIs (Primary Rate Interfaces or other trunks can be reduced or even eliminated - one line or channel today equals one SIP Trunk at around 25% of today's costs
- Our SIP Trunk proposition is fully integrated with our Broadly Speaking Hosted VoIP solution so regional or remote sites can be connected within the same IP network - free calls and short dial between sites.
- No new wires. No new expensive hardware. No need to change the handsets or PBX within an organisation - simply the addition of an IP trunk card is required if it does not exist already. Most modern PBX have the capability to add IP trunk cards as an alternative or addition to existing TDM cards. This allows SIP trunks to be connected.
